This 930ha/2,300 acre park is Regina's pride and joy. Formal gardens of beautiful flowers and trees surround the western part of the artificial Wascana Lake. Willow Island is a picnic site accessible by ferry. Also in the park, which can be toured by car, are the provincial legislative building and a replica of the Diefenbaker Homestead, a three-room pioneer dwelling, home to John George Diefenbaker, prime minister of Canada from 1957 to 1963 (not open to the public; slated to be removed from the park). This house was moved from its original site in Borden, Saskatchewan, where the Diefenbaker family homesteaded between 1905 and 1910.
