Named for Fred Mendel, a wealthy Saskatoon meatpacker of German origin who launched the idea of an art gallery and spent much of his time and money developing it. The permanent collection includes works by the Group of Seven, Emily Carr and David Milne in the Canadian section, as well as Feininger, Chagall, Utrillo and Pissarro and other European painters. In addition, the gallery displays travelling exhibits. There is also a small, attractive conservatory of exotic flowers and plants.
