With a permanent collection of more than 73,000 works of art spanning more than 1,000 years, the Art Gallery of Ontario is among the most distinguished art museums in North America.
After closing and undergoing a C$276 million transformation, the Art Gallery is opening it doors once again! The spectacularly transformed building houses over 73,000 pieces of art, and displays over 4000 pieces at any given time. The spectacular building was designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry and is a piece of art itself. The expansion of the Art Gallery of Ontario increased the art-viewing space by 47% for an additional 97,000 square feet (29,565 square meters).
As the imaginative center of the city, the transformed Art Gallery of Ontario dramatically enriches your experiences and provides new access to the full vibrancy of the art museum. From David Altmejd's monumental installationThe Index to Peter Paul Rubens' masterpieceThe Massacre of the Innocentsa highlight of the internationally acclaimed Thomson Collectionthe AGO's permanent collection is the new focal point post-transformation.
