Totem poles and the sensational building that houses them-the Museum of Anthropology (MOA) is one of North America's most important cultural institutions. It's also a great place to spend an afternoon looking at wonderful things. Designed by Arthur Erickson, the cast-concrete building rests atop a bluff overlooking the Strait of Georgia. From the outside, its huge concrete frame mimics a First Nations longhouse. As you descend a ramp into the main gallery, the roof rises, providing ever-taller halls for the totems that form the centrepiece of the museum's collection.
