Housed in a Victorian mansion (1889) to which several modern additions have been made, the gallery offers an eclectic blend of East and West, ancient and modern. Included in the permanent collection are paintings of Emily Carr. Shown in regularly changing exhibits is the gallery's collection of Asian art, the highlight of which is the Shinto Shrine (1899-1900), constructed of copper, Keiyaki wood and sandstone, in the small Japanese outdoor garden.
