Fort Henry Recommended Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

Its main defences face inland, expressly to guard the land approach to the naval dockyard at Point Frederick. The water approaches were covered by Martello towers built later. Having never been attacked, the fort eventually fell into decay. Restored in 1938 and now a National Historic Site, it is best known today for the Fort Henry Guard, a troop of specially trained students who re-create the life of the 19C British soldier, guide visitors around the restored quarters and storerooms, and perform military manoeuvres. In particular, the garrison parade (daily) should not be missed.
