This military stronghold has become the symbol of reconstructed Louisbourg. Quarters for the garrison provide insight into the lives of the privileged and impoverished in Old World society. The governor's apartments consist of 10 elegant rooms, lavishly furnished. Not as comfortable but well accommodated are the officers' quarters. Drafty and spartan, the soldiers' barracks are not at all conducive to a long stay. The prison and a chapel that once served as the town's parish church can also be visited.
