Bibendum
In the late 19C this fish cannery was one of more than 220 on the British Columbia coast. Built in 1889 on an arm of the Skeena, the complex is the oldest surviving cannery village on the north coast. Here cannery workers of many ethnic backgrounds, including European and Japanese, lived and toiled in what was essentially a small company town. The picturesque village is still intact, as is the factory equipment, which has been out of operation since 1972. Fishing and canning methods are explained during guided tours. A historical drama about Prince Rupert is included on selected tours.
