Sainte-Marie among the Hurons Recommended Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

An audiovisual presentation (17min) explains the mission's history and should be viewed before the rest of the visit. The chapel, forge, saw pit, carpentry shop, residences and native area are peopled by historical interpreters in 17C costume. The mission is divided into separate sections for the Jesuits, the lay workers (called donnes) and the Huron. A rectangular, bark-covered longhouse and a hospital where the Jesuits tended the sick have been constructed in the native section. In the museum, slide shows illustrate Sainte-Marie in the context of its times. Topics such as 17C Europe, New France, the Jesuits and the Huron are explained in excellent displays.
