The Palacio de la Moneda in Santiago, the presidential palace since 1846 and now the seat of government, bears the memory of the 1973 coup which led to the death of Allende. A symbol of Chilean resistance, it was designed by the Spanish (1786) and completed under the first revolutionary junta (1812).
