Valparaíso, the “inconsequential” cultural capital of Chile so dear to Pablo Neruda, is dominated by the 42 hills which rise up in an amphitheatre behind the port located at the mouth of the Rió Maipo and on the Pacific Ocean. The end result is a joyous mix of houses in varying states of disrepair.
