Hvar : Michelin's recommendations
The island of Hvar is a thriving tourist resort. In summer its quays are lined with luxury yachts and café terraces. The site was an important centre under the Greeks, but the town owes most of its splendid architectural heritage to the influence of Venice. In the 16C it was rebuilt after being ransacked by the Turks. The quayside is the heart of the lower town, while the upper town, dominated by the fortress, is entirely surrounded by ramparts.
