This theatre, built in 1612 above the arsenal, was the first municipal theatre of Europe. It was built to celebrate the end of a century of fighting for equal rights between the population and the nobility which led to an agreement signed in 1610. However, the current aspect is early 19C. One of the theatre's rooms houses a collection of contemporary Croatian art of extremely high quality.
