The southern coast of the island of Hvar produces the best red wines of Croatia. Its vineyards stretch out at the foot of the rocky ridge around the villages of Zavala (reputed for its white wines) and Ivan Dolac (almost inaccessible vineyards, built on a steep mountain flank and among the best in the land). Further on you will reach the attractive village of Pitve and the site of Sveta Nedjelja, nestling at the foot of the island's highest peak and which was home to a small Augustine monastery during the Renaissance. Its ruins offer a superb vista of the surrounding vineyards.
