This small port on the island of Hvar is built around a narrow stretch of sea spanned by three bridges and is dominated by the unusual fortified St Mary’s church (Sv Marija) (1575). Built immediately after the Turks ransacked the island in 1571, it illustrates the need for protection at the time. Don’t miss the church of St Lawrence (Sv. Lovrinac), with its polyptych attributed to Veronese. The Glavica peninsula, 2km north of the village, has some pleasant shingle beaches.
