This modest Baroque town boasts a lively pedestrian centre which is very pleasant to walk in. It is also proud of its ancient wine-growing (which dates back to the Middle Ages) and gourmet traditions, as well as a prolific cultural life thanks to the presence of some of Croatia's oldest educational institutes. All of which explain its former name of "Slavonian Athens"!
