St Michael’s Fortress Recommended Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

This stronghold, overlooking the sea from a height of 70m, was part of Sibenik’s defensive system erected in the Middle Ages. The Venetians were responsible for its current 15C appearance. It commands a fine view of the entire town, cathedral and the harbour. To the west, the remains of the ramparts tumbling down the hill to the sea can be clearly seen. All steps in the town led down from the fort to the seafront, enabling its inhabitants to flee rapidly in case of Turkish invasions.
