Construction of this Neoclassical villa, built by the renowned sculptor Mestrovic (1883-1962), began in 1931. He moved into the villa in 1939 but only lived here for two years, before fleeing the Italian occupation. The gardens are dotted with sculptures, but the finest are indoors. Although the artist is known for his monumental works, the villa shows a more intimate side to his work. There are various pietà on the ground floor, while upstairs look out for the Suffering Woman (1928) and, above all, Job (1946), whose face is disfigured in pain.
