This gate is the most impressive vestige of the 13C ramparts that General Marmont razed to the ground during the French occupation because they were very damaged. It dates from the 17C and is crowned with the statue of John of Trogir, bishop of the town (1062-1111), who later became its patron saint. It was sculpted by the Bonino (15C) from Milan.
