The market of Zadar is renowned for the quality of its produce, as the town is surrounded by a fertile plain. Country produce, home-pressed olive oil, hand-strung figs, cured hams, and above all, cheeses from the region, beginning with that from the island of Pag are among the delicacies on sale. On the north-eastern side of the market, near the small gate of St Roch (sv. Rok), note the remains of the medieval wall, built at the same time as the Captain's tower.
