This is the only main square of Zadar to have kept its heritage intact. The Municipal Guard building on the west side dates from 1562 and the loggia, opposite, was formerly a courthouse. A neo-Renaissance edifice, the town hall, takes up the north side with nearby Ghirardini palace, a high Romanesque house with a distinctive Gothic-Renaissance balcony (15C). The square is home to the town's most pleasant café terraces (to the rear of the Lovre café are the remains of an 11C church).
