The road from Sv. Juraj to Jablanac runs along the cliff, commanding outstanding views of the islands of Krk, Rab and those in between (Prvic, Sv. Grgur, Goli Otok, a penal colony for political prisoners under Tito). On the coast, the impressive mass of the Velebit rises. Vegetation is sparse and only a few hamlets brighten up the picture. On arriving from Jablanac, the sight of the gulf of Kvarner (and the white walls of Rijeka) is breathtaking.
