This vast marshy zone, created by the waters of the Drave and the Danube and greatly loved by Marshal Tito in his time, is home to an amazing ecosystem. It offers shelter to up to 260 species of birds during the migratory period, i.e. some 70,000 fowl! Cervidae and boar share the rest of the land and the forest when it is not flooded. In the autumn, the oak, poplar, willow and ash trees turn beautiful rich colours, illuminating the whole area in a romantic halo.
