Also known as the “House of Petar Hektorovic”, this palace is the most fascinating monument in the city. Designed as a fortress by this poet, scion of one of Hvar’s most influential families, its austere façade conceals a marvellous inner garden, laid out around a large fishpond. Inscriptions in Latin around the water’s edge chronicle the author’s values and the vanity of life. The construction took up a good part of his life, from 1520 to 1569.
