Ciego de Ávila : Michelin's recommendations

With an airport, tarmac roads and motorway, it seems everyone is just passing through here, like the hundreds of lorries that rumble along the Carratera central highway. The colonial era left its mark with many colonnaded arcades, but Ciego de Ávila is a modern town with plenty of shops and a booming sugar industry. Tourists tend to avoid it, preferring the Cayos of the coast or surrounding villages like Morón, where a simpler culture of sugar cane and pineapple cultivation prevails.
