This straight commercial thoroughfare links the museum of fine art to Plaza de Armas and abounds in architectural jewels (some of the oldest buildings in the historic centre) with styles ranging from colonial to Art Nouveau. At n°153 (hotel Ambos Mundos), Ernest Hemingway, who inspired such interest in Havana, wrote for Whom the Bell Tolls. It is no surprise that the great author chose as his base this smart and picturesque street, with its bodeguitas, musicians and galleries.
