Pediment, pilasters, symmetry: the full vocabulary of Baroque architecture is present in the lines of the façade. This sober Cuban version of Baroque was superimposed in 1720 onto an original building in danger of ruin. In 1842, the church became a store; four years later, the apse was destroyed in a storm (replaced by a trompe l’œil depiction). Since 1909 it has had a more dignified role, hosting concerts in its nave (fine acoustics). The galleried cloister is a religious art museum.
