Universally known on account of the famous song Guantanamera and the detention centre at the US naval base here, Guantánamo is first and foremost a pleasant provincial town centred on its Parque José Martí and the Calle Pedro A. Pérez. To the north is Plaza de la Revolución Mariana Grajales, named after the mother of two important figures in Cuban revolutionary history.
