Cuba’s capital of tobacco and, more exotically, of the alcoholic spirit guayabita, Pinar del Río has a typically Cuban laid-back ambience and charming little colonial houses with pastel façades. This charm has its limits; some visitors, finding the relentless approaches of its street vendors excessive, prefer to stick to the beaches or head for the Viñales Valley.
