The finest Victorian mansions of Puerta Plata can be seen by Parque Duarte, at the corner of C/Separación C/and Beller, and on the surrounding main streets. One of the most handsome houses, Casa de Cultura (house of culture; corner of C/Duarte and C/Separación) dates from 1889; admire the first floor wooden balcony, which overlooks the cathedral and bandstand of Parque central. The district is packed with other treasures so keep your eyes peeled.
