The Jewish museum charts the arrival and installation of Jewish migrants in the bay of Sosúa. In 1938, during the international Évian conference, only the Dominican Republic declared itself ready to welcome the refugees. They were granted land that formerly belonged to an American banana company. In this isolated spot, 700 refugees built the village of El Batey, now the town's tourist quarter and also home to the synagogue that is still very popular.
