Isla Cabritos, a 24km²-long stretch of earth, stretches out in the centre of Lago Enriquillo and is now a national park. An information centre is open to the public. Devoid of drinking water and unsuitable for human life, the island is a paradise for wildlife. It is in particular home to two endangered species, the Ricord iguana and rhinoceros iguana, which thrive in the vegetation characteristic of arid zones. The sky is full of flocks of birds during migration periods.
