Pillar of Pompeii and Serapeum Interesting : Michelin's recommendations

Little remains of the Serapeum, a sanctuary dedicated to the Greco-Roman god Serapis (combination of Osiris and Apis), as it was destroyed by the Christians. Happily, the Pillar of Pompeii, dedicated to Emperor Diocletian (contrary to what its name might suggest), survived the pillaging. This tall pink-granite column, which has been accompanied by a sphinx since the early 20C, even served as a seamark to seafarers.
