The residence and studio of the leading Finnish artist of the National Romanticist period, Akseli Gallen-Kallela (1865-1931), this castle-like building was designed down to its finest details by the artist himself and constructed in 1913. The permanent exhibition covers the life and work of Gallen-Kallela. The majority of his most interesting works are in the Helsinki Ateneum. The museum regularly organises major exhibitions focusing on the artist and his European contemporaries.
