Most of Otaniemi is made up of the red-brick buildings of the Helsinki Institute of Technology, the work of Alvar Aalto around 1955. The curving main building stands at the centre of the campus. The low building in front of it houses the library; taken as a whole, the ensemble is truly unique. The Dipoli Conference Centre (by Raili and Reima Pietilä, 1966) is a concrete, wood and copper structure of complex form, designed to blend harmoniously into its surroundings.
