Adjacent to the East side of the station, the Finnish National Theatre, unmistakable with its red roof, resembles at first sight a massive castle : built in 1901 by Tarjanne, it conveys the spirit of national romanticism which reigned at that time. In front of the theatre stands the statue of Aleksis Kivi, the first novelist to write in Finnish and author of Seven Brothers (1870).
