Constructed between 1905 and 1910 by Gesellius, Lindgren and Saarinen, this building with high steeple and circular tower, decorated with Kalevala-inspired frescoes by Askeli Gallen-Kallela (1928), was a latecomer in the canon of National Romanticism; it provides the ideal architectural backdrop in which to display the rich collections of the museum, for the most part devoted to Finno-Ugric culture.
