A low circular wall surmounted by a copper cupola: from the exterior, there is no evidence that this church, designed by the Suomalainen brothers in 1960 and built between 1968 and 1969, has been set below ground level, as far down as the rock which itself makes up one wall of the building. With its excellent acoustics, “the church in the rock” serves as a concert hall as well as a place of worship.
