: Michelin's recommendations
Finland’s easternmost settlement, Ilomantsi is primarily Orthodox. It has also been the home of numerous folk poets and bards, whose songs have transmitted Finninsh folklore down through the generations. In 1964, a traditional log cabin, the runic singers’ cabin (Runonlaulajan Pirtti), was built on the heights of Parppeinvaara in homage to the folk poetry traditon. Further into the village stands the Orthodox church of St Elias, Pyhän Eliaan kirkko, strikingly set against a typically rural backdrop.
