In summer, Mont Ruka (491m) is a superb site. The summit can be reached by chairlift and the most daring can toboggan back down. The famous Bear Circuit, Karhunkierros (for experienced hikers), ends at the foot of the mount, which is renowned for its winter sports (28 downhill runs and 18 ski lifts). The first skiers of the year take to the slopes as of mid-October; there are also 180km of marked cross-country skiing pistes. Snow-bike and husky safaris are also organised.
