The home of Finland's national poet, Johan Ludvig Runeberg (1804-1877) is one of the town’s best-preserved Empire buildings. The interior remains as it was during the poet's last years. In the drawing room, note the bust of his father (1860) by Walter Runeberg as well as K.E. Jansson’s work, A Coin in the Moneybox, much loved by the poet. It was in his bedroom that Runeberg spent the last 13 years of his life, bedridden following a stroke.
