This red-granite building (1904) overlooking Turku blends international Art Nouveau and National Romantic styles. Centre-stage among its collections are 30 paintings by Gallen-Kallela (1865-1931), the mainstay of Finnish painting. Works by Victor Westerholm (1860-1919) and Helene Schjerfbeck (1862-1946), plus animal sculptures by Jussi Mäntynen (1886-1967). Busts of the "father of Finnish painting", R.W. Ekman and his pupil V. Westerholm, have their bust (by Wäinö Aaltonen) stand in front of the entrance.
