The main castle boasts many admirable features: the porter's lodge with its friezes (c 1530), Sture Chapel (1480) and its medieval religious sculptures, the nuns' chapel and its Gothic Virgin Mary (14C) and finally the king's room with its Edelfelt painting: Duke Charles Insulting the Remains of Klas Fleming (1878). The Turku History Museum occupies the outer castle where Erik XIV was held from 1570-1571, after John III took the Swedish throne from him (1568). Here you can see a superb model of the Renaissance floor.
