This national park is Europe’s largest woodland park, covering an area of 2 855km2. The holiday village and reception centre at Njurgalahti can be reached by car and is an ideal starting point for walks. The valley of the River Lemmenjoki, Leämmi, is the heart of the region. The picturesque River Ravadas and its foaming waterfalls, Ravadasköngäs, can be reached on a one day walk, as can the gold rich area of “Kultala” where, since the 19C, the river has borne fruit for many a prospector.
