A fire destroyed the first building in 1045. It was rebuilt in the 12C and only a few parts remain today: the portal, the crypt and an historiated frieze on the left side. The massive portico (17C) houses a portal decorated with remarkable Romanesque sculptures from Alsace: the arcatures (the benefactors of the abbey), the lintel (the Creation and the earthly Paradise). The crypt, built under the choir is decorated with 15C stalls and by Richard's tomb.
