This is the twin of the Place des Vosges in Paris! The same love of geometric order, stone-clad brick pavilions and arcades. It was an idea of Clement Metezeau (1581 - 1652) whose brother Louis was to create the Parisian Square. Many of its restored pavilions have rediscovered their bull's-eye windows and Louis XIII ornamental facades. In the middle of the square the statue of Charles de Gonzague who gave his name to the town founded by him in 1606.
