Ferrette
: Michelin's recommendations
Historically the capital of Sundgau, Ferrette was in the 10C the powerbase of independent counts whose territory included much of Alsace. It became an Austrian possession in the 14C before passing to France in 1648. The title count of Ferrette is today held by the Prince of Monaco. Attractively situated in the Jura Alsacien region, this little town is overlooked by two ruined castles, sited 612m up on a rocky outcrop from where there is a view over the Vosges, the Rhine Valley and the River Ill.
