Haguenau : Michelin's recommendations

Amid ferns, blueberries, hornbeam and alder, a marked pathway leads to the Arbogast oak, supposedly marking the site of a 5C hermitage. This forest made Haguenau's fortune by enabling villages of potters to become established. But it was Frederick Hohenstaufen (“One-Eye”) who founded the small town and gave it its name. He built a castle called “Haugenow” (the fortification by the river) on an island on the River Moder.
