Duke Léopold of Lorraine loved to stay in Lunéville and admired the Sun King. He had his own little Versailles built here and attracted to it all the nobility of Lorraine. Later King Stanislas embellished the château where he held court for the leading figures of the age. So it was in the 18C that Lunéville knew times of great prosperity, all the more so because of its Royal pottery factory. The modern-day appearance of the city retains vestiges of this glorious past.
