Neufchateau Travel guide
Neufchateau : Michelin's recommendations
Situated at an important crossroads, Neufchâteau, once home to the literary Goncourt brothers, has preserved many old residences (mostly from the 17C and 18C) on Place Jeanne-d'Arc. There is a large market but the town is also a small industrial centre for furniture and agroalimentary production. Its exhibition in mid-August is one of the oldest in the Vosges.

The church has an aractured façade standing on small columns. Don't miss the 16C funerary chapel of P Woeriot, the duke's goldsmith. His vault with 12 hanging keys is true stone lace.
You need to go inside the Town Hall to see the lovely Italian staircase that was completed in 1594 and the vaulted cellars with their diagonal ribs date back to the 14C.
The houses mainly date back to the 17th and 18C. N° 2, with its lion's head over the door, was the family house of Jules et Edmond de Goncourt.
